From Inquiry to Action: Blackstone Academy Charter School's Approach to Academics
Download ResourceTopics
We’ve all had the experience of truly purposeful, authentic learning and know how valuable it is. Educators are taking the best of what we know about learning, student support, effective instruction, and interpersonal skill-building to completely reimagine schools so that students experience that kind of purposeful learning all day, every day.
The academic model at Blackstone Academy Charter School in Rhode Island focuses not only on what students learn but also on who they are and how they act in the world. This publication explores the school's approach to community-based projects organized around essential questions, which includes performance-based assessment and integrated academic and social-emotional support. It was prepared to support a virtual Learning Excursion for school teams of diverse stakeholders to learn more about Blackstone Academy and become inspired to redesign their own high schools.
