New Designs for School
New Designs for School

We’ve all had the experience of truly purposeful, authentic learning and know how valuable it is. Educators are taking the best of what we know about learning, student support, effective instruction, and interpersonal skill-building to completely reimagine schools so that students experience that kind of purposeful learning all day, every day.

Hallmark Feature: Online content with personalized support from teacher advisors

  • This small, rural district serving a high-poverty population has partnered with the Kentucky Department of Education’s Innovation Network and has been recognized for its successful turnaround of its low-performing high school and now is a “Distinguished School” (top 10% of schools in the state).
  • Building on the success of the turnaround, the district proposes Learn Your Way, a new blended learning model for its high school that would incorporate online content and flexible, personalized pacing.
  • Although the model focuses on high school curriculum, selected students in Metcalfe County Middle School (grades 7 and 8) will benefit from participation in the model via individual pilot classes. Also, online dual credit opportunities with Western Kentucky University will be available for upper level students.
  • Staff roles will ultimately be redefined with each teacher serving as an advisor to 20 students; flexible hours for staff will allow the school building to be fully operational from 7am to 5pm, with evening hours once a week.
