Next Gen Tools: EAA's "Buzz"

This innovation brief from Next Generation Learning Challenges (NGLC) focuses on Buzz, a K-12 personalized learning platform used in Education Achievement Authority of Michigan's schools. Buzz was developed in partnership between EAA, Agilix, and School Improvement Network. Buzz facilitates the delivery of core content and assessments to students, allows students to advance at an individualized pace, and provides data to inform teachers' instructional strategies. The brief includes an artifact of screenshots and a student tour of the platform.

KIPP Chicago: KIPP Create College Prep Middle School

This Chicago middle school serving grades 5-8 builds on the KIPP academic model by blending instructional technology with high-quality teaching methods. The technology is a tool that allows a single instructor and a single classroom to serve the individual needs of a diverse student body. In "Power Hour" housed within a flexible Learning Lab space, students use videos, tutorials, and interactive content to practice key competencies on their own and in teams based on an individual learning plan.

Summit Public Schools: Summit Denali

The model of Summit Denali, a 6-12 charter school in the Bay Area of California that opened in 2013, flipped the traditional school model, placing students at the center and allowing them to self-direct and drive their own learning. The school day includes personalized learning time, project time, mentor time, reading time, and community time. Students, teachers, and parents navigate through the learning using the Personalized Learning Plan dashboard.

Design Tech High School: d.tech

A Bay Area charter high school, d.tech develops "innovation-ready" students by combining content knowledge with the design thinking process while fostering a sense of autonomy and purpose. The academic model is grounded in self-paced learning through a flex schedule, high standards, and design thinking through a four-year design advisory.
