Co-authored by Amy Epstein of Assessment for Learning Project grantee Leadership Public Schools, this book offers design principles, research-evidence, and pragmatic strategies to create identity safe classrooms. In identity safe classrooms, students facing negative stereotypes or viewed as different are “seen,” accepted, and valued for who and what they are. Transforming Learning for Equity: Navigating the Change with Transformation Design

The Transformation Design framework of core practices reflects a dynamic process of managing and leading an equitable, district-wide learning transformation. The Transformation Design framework emerged from the studying (a) contemporary change practices used in business, social movements, public organizations, and education, and (b) the change practices used in leading districts that have successfully transformed the learning experience in their schools with positive outcomes for their students. This publication synthesizes the findings and summarizes the literature on organizational change that influenced the development of the Transformation Design framework.
